Healthy Diets at School

Healthy diets are being promoted in the media yet we continue to see an increase in obesity rates in both adults and children. Some critics argue that the root cause of this problem goes back to childhood, and is linked to the fact that city kids have little concept of where there food comes from and no understanding of farming.

In British Colombia, some are suggesting that that the answer is to teach kids about food production and healthy diets by having each school grow its own kitchen garden that is tended by students . Kids would learn about eco friendly farming techniques by using only simple tools and no pesticide, and the healthy food they grow would be used in their lunches. This concept does not require a lot of expensive equipment so it's also cost effective for schools to implement.
